History of

Siberian Husky

The Siberian husky originated in Northeast Asia, a place called Chukchi Peninsula. The Chukchi people used these double-coated, large- sized dogs as sled dogs and they excelled in it. Their ancestors belonged to Siberian Arctic and that too in an
inclement weather.

The breed was first brought to the city in United States called Nome to serve as active sled-pulling dog. Eventually Alaskans amplified their interest in this breed. Therefore, William Goosak, a fur trader introduced huskies during Nome Gold Rush as sled dogs.

Leonhard Seppala, one of the pre-eminent breeders of that time gathered a number of championships to his name by participating in the competitions.

Leonhard Seppala and his lead sled dog Togo covered the most dangerous path (over 260 miles of the journey) of the serum run They crossed over 600 miles From Nenana to Nome to deliver the diphtheria serum. Gunnar Kaasen was the final musher who
participated in the run to Nome with his team of sled dogs for the last 53 miles. Balto was the lead dog who completed the serum run and in honor of the lead dog, a statue was built in the Central Park of New York.

The Siberian Husky dog was first recognized by the American Kennel Club and in the same year, the exportation of Siberian husky was halted.

In this year United Kennel Club registered this dog as “Arctic Husky”. Later in 1991 the name was changed to Siberian Husky.
